The rubber industry consists of at least a dozen synthetic polymer families and hundreds of rubber chemicals such as accelerators, crosslinking agents, antioxidants, antiozonants, and process aids. Polymers are combined with these chemicals as well as key fillers such as carbon black, clay, oil, and silica to achieve specific processing traits or end-use physical properties.
The Western U.S. Rubber Industry continues to represent all phases of rubber part production:
- custom mixed rubber
- compression, injection, and transfer molded parts
- plastic or metal bonded gaskets
- extrusions, sheet, and sponge
- coating systems
- salt bath, microwave, autoclave, and oven cured processes
- low volume to multi-million part quantities
While tire production has left the Western U.S., other markets continue to be served: aerospace/aircraft, military, oil patch, automotive, industrial, medical, chemical process, and recreational.
Over the past 20 years, U.S. manufacturing has shifted to more cost-effective global locations. The Western U.S. rubber industry has reflected this trend and has condensed to fewer large companies and many smaller (less than $20MM in sales) rubber manufacturers. Key growth areas are rubber part consumers in the East and Midwest.
Lipscomb Chemical limits its technical sales representation to only select market leaders with key rubber industry suppliers and products.
